Juste une précision, cet excellent jeu de Kim Kanger (initialement sorti dans le Vae Victis 70) ne reprend que la partie tonkinoise du conflit indochinois. Les théâtres d'opérations de Cochinchine, d'Annam et du Laos ne sont pas traités. Pour le conflit dans sa globalité, voir le Strategy & Tactics n° 209 avec la simulation Indochina War.
Il est clair cependant que l'essentiel du corps de bataille vietminh était au Tonkin.

I have just finished the updated order of battle. To make it workable as a game I have to standardize a few things, like staying with one unit designation. 3 BPC will not change into 5 BPVN although it was 5 BPVN that fought in Dien Bien Phu. Sorry.

Another thing that I have to solve is the wrong scale between the unit size and the map. The map really demands regiment size units. The problem is, though, that the French mostly fought in battalions. The main problem is that I don't want the French to be able to cover every hex in the delta with units (units that were really too small to cover a hex) and thereby deny Viet Minh any kind of entry into the area. One idea that I'm playing with is to create larger (and a bit abstract) units consisting of the increasing amount of national Vietnamese army units (not the VM). These became quite many after awhile and many of them stayed in the delta. I can make these "regimental size" and thereby decrease counter density. I shall see...

The most important aspect is that the game flows well! Each year is now reduced to 10 game turns, and the number of phases is reduced in each game turn. My hope is to reach a play time of about 30 minutes per game turn. Thsi will still make the entire campaign long (39 game turns or perhaps less). But there are five scenarios. Each one can function as a starting point for the campaign (the option will then be 8 to 39 game turns) or be played as a single scenario ranging from 7 to 10 game turns.

One of my main inspiration to the game was Path of Glory. In Tonkin, like in PoG, there are so many ways that you can hurt your opponent. The surest way of not getting slapped is to keep the initiative and threaten your opponent instead and force him to react instead of act.
